Biomechanics & Golf Timeline

From Featheries and hickory shafts to 4-layer synthetic balls and a laser range finder in the bag, golf has come a long way.  Golfers now, for better or worse, expect to play with the same equipment designed for tour level players and have access to apps that can track the distance of each shot and calculate  ‘strokes gained’ (or lost!) for virtually any part of their game.

In a course that introduces/covers the uses of 3D measurement technology in golf instruction, we would be remiss to not address the evolution that we have seen in technology, and the impact it has had, on sport, including golf, sport science, and even our daily lives.  To help provide some perspective, the next page is an Interactive Timeline that provides an historical view of the role technology has played in golf and other sports, as well as the sport sciences.

On the timeline, you can click the arrows beside the images of each entry, or click and drag the timeline across the bottom to see the evolution of events in four categories: Biomechanics, Golf Technology and Equipment, Technology in Sports, and The Game of Golf.
