Next Steps

Looking to the future

Our understanding of the golf swing and all of its elements, from ground reaction forces, to kinematic sequence, and even how the hands and wrists interact to deliver the club, continues to grow. As more instructors take the time to learn and apply biomechanics concepts, we will continue to understand more about how the information can be used to improve our understanding of the golf swing. By further advancing golf instruction, we will continue to grow the game of golf by improving player performance while reducing the risk of injury.

When creating this class and making decisions on which materials to include we always knew that we wouldn’t be able to fit everything from the biomechanics of golf into one online class. However, we do hope that you found the material that we did include helped you to rethink, confirm, and/or refine some of your teaching philosophies. It was also our goal to help you understand how 3D motion capture systems can serve as valuable analysis and instructional tools. We also wanted to help you gain a better understanding of the actual movements in the golf swing with a higher level of specificity and detail than when you started the class.

Course Completion Information

To complete all of the requirements of this class, you will need to complete both the Swing Analysis Assignment and the Final Exam.

Swing Analysis Exercise:

If you have not yet submitted your analysis report, please complete the Swing Analysis Assignment.

Final Exam:

It is not our intent to certify you in the field of golf biomechanics. But rather, this Final Exam, along with the self check questions throughout the class, should serve as a way for you to monitor your progress and understanding of the material presented. With that in mind, if you would like to complete the exam with your notes open, that is fine by us. We care most that you understand the material. For everyone who achieves a score of 80% or greater, you will receive a certificate of completion and we will be able to verify your completion of the class with continuing education accrediting bodies (e.g. PGA, LPGA, etc.).

Take some time to review the course and all of the self-check questions. When you feel ready, please complete the Final Exam.

Stay engaged:

It is important for us to continue to learn from all of you! We will be forwarding you an end of course survey. We would really appreciate your feedback about your experience with this class. Your responses will help guide us in improving this offering, and possibly considering other courses.

Whether it be through social media, an in-person meeting somewhere along the way, or a visit to our Penn State Golf Teaching & Research Center, we look forward to our next opportunity to interact with each of you.

Best Regards,

Eric Handley and Mike Duffey
